Historic Preservation

The mission of the Rockford Historic Preservation Commission (RHPC) is to "Provide proactive and practical guidance and resources to preserve structures and neighborhoods of historic significance."

Rockford has a rich history embodied in its historic sites and buildings, something which we wish to showcase and further a desire to see these assets preserved and utilized. To assist in this goal, a new interactive map of historic sites and districts in Rockford is now available HERE! This new online tool seeks to help increase public awareness of historic preservation and will grant citizens access to information on Rockford's many historic sites. The links to the right can provide you with useful information on the historic preservation guidelines for the City of Rockford.

As a Certified Local Government (CLG) by the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency (IHPA), the RHPC is authorized to maintain and enforce guidelines on changes made to properties that are either a locally designated landmark, or are located within a locally designated historic district.
