An annual license expires on January 31.
This license applies to all individuals or entities who want to operate their wreckers or tow trucks in responding to Police emergency situations in the removal of and towing away of motor vehicles which are involved in an accident, or which constitute an obstruction of traffic because of mechanical failure, within the City of Rockford. There are very specific requirements that must be adhered to before a license can be approved. See Code sections 29.168 through 29.182 for full details.
To obtain a license, complete the Rotating Wrecker License Application and return with a City of Rockford Towing License, certificate of insurance, supporting documentation, and the appropriate license fee, to the attention of the Legal Department. The license will be issued upon approval of the application.
Compliance with all laws, ordinances, and regulations of the City of Rockford, including all building, zoning, and fire regulations, as well as all State of Illinois statutes applicable to such a licensed business or device is mandatory.
