Community Outreach

The Rockford Fire Department is responsive to the needs of the citizens of Rockford. The department reaches out to the community in many ways to prevent, educate, and respond to concerns and emergencies. These avenues include school education programs, juvenile fire setter intervention, "Home Safety Surveys", commercial pre-plans, drowning prevention, and public education festivals.

Through the coordinated efforts of the Fire Prevention Division and the Fire Operations Division, the needs of the community are identified. Once the needs are identified, methods to address the needs are designed and goal-based programs are instituted to accomplish these goals. This method has proven to be successful as evidenced by reductions in the number of preventable fire deaths and injuries within the city.
