City LGBTQIA+ Liaison

The City of Rockford supports the rights of our LGBTQIA+ community. As such, the city has appointed its first LGBTQIA+ Liaison to provide an informed voice to the city's Executive Office on LGBTQIA+ issues in the Rockford community. The Liaison will serve as an accessible and friendly ear to the city's LGBTQIA+ community and elevates LGBTQIA+-related concerns to the Executive Office. The Liaison currently serves as Co-President of the city's LGBTQIA+ Employee Resource Group to further cultivate a respectful and inclusive working environment for all city employees, while also advancing the education, protections, and policies for LGBTQIA+ citizens and allies within the City of Rockford. The Liaison works collaboratively with the city's Human Resources Department, city staff and community organizations to promote equity and human rights for the LGBTQIA+ community.

“As a member of the LGBTQIA+ community, I know the challenges this community faces,” says Emily. “I think this is the perfect opportunity for me to help strengthen the relationship between the LGBTQIA+ community and our local government. These appointments allow citizens of Rockford to have direct contacts to raise concerns, share praise, as well as the ability to notify the City of events sponsored by the LGBTQIA+ community and its allies. The creation of both Liaison positions provides a coordinated response to the community’s needs and will increase visibility and safety for the LGBTQIA+ community.”
