The City of Rockford’s Community and Economic Development departments announced today that the application for the Home Repair and Accessibility Program (HRAP) is now available. The program is designed to assist low-income and very low-income homeowners with accessibility, health, safety and energy efficiency repairs to their homes. The Illinois Housing Development Authority awarded the City $400,000 to use for these projects, and it is anticipated that seven to eight projects will be completed.
To be eligible, homeowners must be at-or-below 80 percent of the Area Median Income based on household size, current on the mortgage payments and the property must be single-family. Additionally, at least 30 percent of the work scheduled to be completed must address accessibility needs for a member of the household. Eligible homeowners may receive up to $45,000 to cover necessary repairs through a five-year, forgivable loan.
The application will be available until 5 p.m. on Monday, May 22. A lottery will be held on Tuesday, May 23, and applicants will be notified of their position in that lottery by Friday, May 26.
