Temporarily Outdoor Vehicle Sale License

A license expiring on the seventh day of the sale.

This license applies to all individuals or entities who are licensed car dealers and wish to sell, display for sale, or offer for sale, or advertise for sale any vehicle outside a completely enclosed building on property not zoned for vehicle sales as defined by Code section 5.392 within the City of Rockford. Temporary vehicle sales are limited to new vehicles or a combination of new and used vehicles. There are very specific requirements that must be adhered to before a license can be approved. See Code sections 5.390 through 5.398 for full details.

To obtain a license, complete the Outdoor Vehicle Sale License Application and return with written permission by property owner to allow the sale to occur, supporting documentation, and the appropriate license fee to the Payment Center at City Hall at least ten days prior to the commencement of the sale. The license will be issued upon approval of the application.

Compliance with all laws, ordinances, and regulations of the City of Rockford, including all building, zoning, and fire regulations as well as all State of Illinois statutes applicable to such a licensed business or device is mandatory.

Only four temporary sales are permitted on a given premise in any calendar year.

A tent sale also requires a separate tent permit from Zoning.
